Hello, paunda_bear! [10 Jan 2008|08:07pm]
[ mood | nostalgic ]

Got myself a new LJ. :D Do add me up, please:

I decided not to shut down this account na lang. There are memories I want to forget for a while but they're too precious to do away with forever. :) This blog chronicled four years of my life--and I wanna be able to browse through this one day and laugh at myself. x)) I just wont be posting  here anymore, I guess. :D Not that that's a loss to anyone. x))

So, goodbye, pauline_0125! The last four years were great! :D

Congratulations to Leloy aka AdMU Batch 2007's Valedictorian! :D
(Imagine 13 people jumping up and down/looking happily surprised/exclaiming "Whoa!" and "Galing" altogether when Lel came in with the news, panting. Then Chars hit Leloy on the torso (or was it the head, Chars? :)) ) in happiness.:)) Good job, Lel! :)) )

Congratulations to the ADS (not the dancing org :D) for winning Best Organization in the Loyola School Awards! :D

Bring out the bubbly! *dances*

Done with CSB IVs... [12 Feb 2007|09:52am]
[ mood | amused ]

...and I'm more than happy with what transpired. :) Ateneo A (Lel, Glenn and Jaja) broke 2nd and won the tourney. Ateneo B (Me, Darren and Vinny) broke 12th and reached semis. Ateneo C (Aly, James and Cris) broke 10th and reached octos. Glenn's 4th in the Top 10 and Lel's 2nd. It doesn't hurt to add that I was 7th, I suppose. Haha. :)

It was probably the most strenous tourney I've ever had--because my teammates and I were barely eating and the pressure to step up was, admittedly, immense. But it's not everyday that an all-freshman team reaches the semi-final round of a tourney so I'm thankful I shared the experience with Vinny and Darren. I especially enjoyed the break rounds. The motions were cool and winning octos and quarters was an added bonus to the fun I had engaging the motions. We eventually lost to UPD A but I had so much fun that I was thinking of arguments even after the rounds. :)' Now that is not good. XD

Vinny - Props to the world's best first speaker! XD I couldn't have pulled off the econ props the way you did. Thank you for not singing out loud too much during the tourney. :D (Additionally, thank you for always making sure Darren and I get to critique your cases before you actually run them and for believing in me when I had to pull off SG [Spice Girls! XD XD] cases. )

Lastly, thank you for pretending that you're not nervous or apprehensive whenever I show you and Darren that I am-just so I'll calm down and be okay. :P I'm not as dense as you'd like to think. :P

Darren - Spice it, Second. I love our alien! :D Team B barely needed matter. We had Darren. XD Darren, thanks for being the world's most amusing whip and helping me tamper-proof my SG cases. Don't get Malien talking about biofuel--he'll be passionate as hell and start talking about comparative market prices and Brazilian ethanol. XD Thanks for always telling me not to worry about you and for being Ateneo B's almanac! :D

Good times. :)

Trivia!! [17 Jan 2007|07:56pm]

Amusing Trivia From Jess Coca's Cool Planner (There's one per page!)

1. Parrots can eat anything human beings eat except avocados and chocolates.
2. Ancient Chinese artists refused to paint women's feet.
3. Ouija (otherwise known as the yes-or-no spirit game)was named for Oui (French) and Ja (German)--both of which mean 'yes'.
4. Frank Baum named Oz after a filing cabinet. He had two. The first one was labelled A-N and the other O-Z.
5. Whenever you sneeze, all your body parts stop functioning--including your heart.
6. 50 percent of bank roberry cases happen on Fridays.
7. The king of hearts is the only 'king card' in a deck without a mustache.
8. A dentist invented the electric chair.
9. The humming bird is the only bird with the ability to fly backwards.

Jess' planner made me feel mine's sooo boring. XD

WUDC post [08 Jan 2007|02:32pm]
[ mood | chipper ]

Things I Won't Ever Forget About WUDC

1. Jasmine. We only found out we'd definitely be partners about a day or two before we left for Canada but I was glad to have worked with one of the zaniest debaters I've ever known. :) Ja, thanks for having faith in our (very sudden) partnership, for believing we'd do just fine when I felt I had nothing else to go on with, for giving the tournament your all. Team C's mantra for the tournament: Fighting spirit. 'Yan na lang ang meron tayo..

2.Steph. My performance wasn't all stellar, I suppose, but I dedicated all 9 rounds to Steph who, in a very strange way, understands me in a way few people do. I was looking forward to competing with you but I'm very happy that you did wonderfully with Miko. :) I missed you, Sheep. :)

3. Denny's. It's the diner we frequented a lot during our stay. People shouldn't wonder why a lot of North Americans (Don't include Jasmine in the count. And, yes, she has an American passport. XD) are obese. XD

4. New Year's Eve countdown. I welcomed 2007 with Miko and Steph. We watched the countdown on Thurlow Street while we were heading to 7-11. My 31st was pretty uneventful. Had dinner with the contingent, hung out at Sharms' room, walked to 7-11 with Sheep and Miko, watched the countdown, went back to the hotel, made a few calls, bonded with Jaja then slept. Not quite festive but strangely satisfying. :)

5. WUDC and Post-WUDC Shopping. Shopping's the best form of therapy, I guess (especially when it seems like 'SALE' signs were plastered all over). Sharms probably shopped the most! XD My dad didn't know I was such a sucker for perfume until I got back and unloaded 7 bottles of the same thing and 2 of another all for myself from my luggage. Post-WUDC shopping with my dad went well. Scored a few things I normally wouldn't get on my own.

6. Chars, Leloy, Sharms, Miko. I've said this before and I'm saying it again: I learned from the best. :)

7. Hirits on Ocean Life. Must've began when the airport lady gave us ocean-life viewing brochures and we were like, "At this time of the year?". We all aren't fans of sea urchins, dolphins, whales--basically things that reside in water. Not when Canada was soo cold.

8. Pick-up Lines and Jesus Jokes. Flirts and Heretics = deadly combination. XD

Are you from Jamaica? Coz you're Jamaican me crazy. (WEH.)
Do you have a quarter? I told my mom I'd call her when I see the girl of my dreams. (courtesy of Miko)
Do you believe in love at first sight or do you want me to walk by again? (courtesy of Miko again)
Bakit hindi ka mauuhaw pag kasama mo si Jesus? Kasi siya ay King of the Juice (Jews)! (courtesy of Jasmine)
Bakit mayaman si Jesus? Kasi Jesus saves. (courtesy of James)
Bakit malungkot si Jesus? Kasi Jesus cries (Christ)! (courtesy of James again)

9. Hobos. Subway was just right across the hotel so it was the most convenient food haunt for us. One time, Sharms, Steph, Ja and I were approached by a tall hobo who wanted us to give him 20 dollars when we bought sandwiches to eat. 0_0 And he looked dangerous. The guy screamed at us for not handing him the money. XD Another time, we passed by McDo and there was this lady talking to someone we couldn't see. :D I clung to Steph right away. XD

10. Tong-its. On the plane ride back, Ja taught me how to play the game. I never thought I'd get the hang of it. XD

11. Queensland University. For reasons I'd rather not reveal here. :D Nothing harsh.

12. Room 1202. The room I shared with Ja. Probably the messiest of all the ADS quarters. This is the 2nd tournament I've had with Ja as my roommate. XD I had very little sleep during our stay. I'd sleep at 3 am and wake up at 6. The hotel was nice though. :)

13. A full week without coffee. A first this year. :D

I had fun. ;p

[ mood | sad ]

This really hasn't been a wonderful day, I think. :) Quite rollercoaster-y. One minute I'm extremely happy then minutes later you'll find me teary and disoriented. Ahhh, weird.

I really don't know what to make out of everything right now. Whether or not I'm sorry or should be in the near future, I really don't know. All I ask is that the Man Above gives me a shot at things that I think will be stepping stones for me. And I hope to hell I don't lose people/things as I go along. Oh God, please not. Oh God.

This Christmas, I only have one wish. Just one. Just one. One.

Yes, it's official. Christmas break, I deserve you.

I'm missing a lot of people--my brother and father top the list. :) I haven't seen PJ in a pretty long while.

I have an annotated biography to do then I'm off to enjoy my break. :)

NDC in a (ginormous) nutshell [30 Oct 2006|07:05am]
Things I Won't Ever Forget About NDC

WARNING: My medicines are making me particularly groggy so bear with whatever mistakes you might find in the post.

1. Steph. I've said it before and I'm saying it again: Steph's the best to have beside you when you're feeling queasy and nervous. Partner, not everything went as planned but I'm happy I had you as my teammate this year. You held me up when I was feeling particularly sick and apprehensive. You taught me a thing or two about setting records straight and managing my gut properly. :) I miss you, Sheep.

2. Room 514. The boys from the first batch to get to Baguio from the Ateneo contingent described it to us as " 2 connected rooms with a kitchen." They all kept repeating the "it has a kitcken" part. I really don't know why the kitchen mattered to the boys. :)) Props to the best roommates ever: Sharms, Aly, Jazzie and Sheep. They've seen me at my worst--droopy eyes, messed-up hair, rumpled pajamas and all. Aly and Ja are the best people to talk to in the wee hours of the morning while Sharms and Steph are the best to process things with late at night.

3.Chars, Leloy, Sharms, Mahar, Miko and Glenn. These are the people who invested so much in training us newvar members. I owe them sooo much--for teaching me things I never would have learned outside the ADS. I feel guilty that I didn't perform as well as I wanted to. In the end though, the fact that these people helped me althroughout my first few months in college debating just affirms what I've been taught before: Debaters can be mean but they have hearts of gold. Some of them anyway.

4. Team Adj: Jessica, Wyndale (Wendell), James and Mikee. The Coca-bus is love! :D Jess was one of the few I could talk to when I was at my craziest during the rounds. There are times when I can't get Wyndale's Physics jargon but I still stand by what I said before: 6 hours stuck in a van with Wyndale can be enjoyable. Mikee's post-break hirits and "pseudo-gay scenes" are still the best. Some teams actually believe ChaCha is bigotry!. James is weird when he's drunk but, surprisingly, he's saner that way. :D Wyndale and James, thanks for looking out for me whenever I'm particularly clumsy. :D

5. The shower. One minute you have it hot. A few minutes later, you'll feel like you're gonna die freezing. It always screws up whenever its Sharms' turn! :))

5. Dani, Steph, Vinny and Sharms. These are the people who helped me out when I was suffering from asthma attacks and fever. Sharms was particularly concerned when I began wheezing my lungs out. Sharms, thanks for the vitamins and for always going out of your way to check up on me in between rounds--even if you were under a lot of stress yourself. Vinny, thanks for accompanying me from UB to the drugstore to get my meds and back. Dani, thanks for rushing me to the hospital when I had an attack at 6 in the friggin morning! :) Thanks for keeping my spirits up while I was getting treatment for 3 straight hours! Steph, thanks for the sore throat meds!! And super thanks for looking out for me. :)

6. Breaking 12th and getting to Octos. I'm happy Steph and I got that far. There were a few things we didnt expect but we're happy we got to kick ass anyway. :)

7. Ateneo C. Seeing Glenn and Sharms in action made me realize just how much I love the ADS. I am proud that I got into it and I'm sure the other newvar members feel the same. :) There are a few decisions a lot of us don't agree with but we were very, very proud seeing Sharms and Glenn give speeches that awed everyone watching the round. :) To UPD A, congratulations for bagging the championship. :)

8. Crackers and Cheese Spread. Steph and I consumed an entire pack of Mahar's crackers. :)) I guess we needed crackers to keep our minds off what has been a jarring last night in a lot of ways. I now know what to do when I'm feeling particularly confused: give Steph a hug and fetch a huge bag of crackers. :))

Like I said, some things didnt go as planned. Some things surprised us with their novelty. Still, we fought hard and gave the rounds our all. For that and more, I'm happy I became part of this year's NDC contingent. :)

Off to get sleep. Damn these medicines. I feel like I've been sleeping a hell lot lately.

Steph, let's do this. :)

Off to NDC in about 13 hours. Amzing: I now have a resolution. :))

Here's to a week with Team AdM.
Here's to the best freshmen debaters from my batch (Aly, Vinny, Jazzie, Jess and Cheng).
Here's to Steph (aka The Current Love of My Life).
Here's to everyone joining NDC.
